God & Star Wars
The Star Wars movies are absolutely filled with numerous religious references and images, as George Lucas borrowed heavily from a variety of religious traditions to tell us what happened a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. As a result, Star Wars has often been used to bring religious themes to life - and one of the best at this was the late Fr. Mike "Catfish" Mireau. Drawing inspiration from his writings and videos at www.fathercatfish.com where he explained how Episodes 1-6 brought our Christian faith to life, ECSRD Chaplain Mike Landry will continue the story - looking at how the new Star Wars movies continue to be an excellent tool when teaching religion and sharing faith.

10:30 MST

Around the New Testament in sixty minutes - a crash orientation session
This session is aimed at teachers who teach (or will teach) religion classes and have little prior familiarity with the New Testament or with the bible as a whole. The session aims to achieve two goals: a) equip participants with an initial working understanding of how the Old Testament came to be put together, and b) equip participants with basic tools to grasp its internal coherence, its story line.

Sacred Scripture & Secular Students
With more than six billion copies printed, the Bible is arguably the best-selling book of all time. The stories we hear in scripture from Genesis to Revelation are our stories: stories of triumph and failure, of faith and doubt, and above all, of a God who sticks with us day in and day out... but bringing these stories to life for our students can be a real challenge. Simply put: this convention session is one designed to help you to engage your students in the Bible. Join Evergreen Catholic Schools chaplain Mike Landry as he shares a framework by which students can make sense of the "big picture" of salvation history. He'll present 10 of his best classroom presentations from the Bible. Finally, he'll share some of his favourite resources for making sense of Bible as well as some of the strategies (movie clips, props, drama) he uses to challenge students to engage with scripture.
