Dungeons & Dragons & Social Skills
The value of role play has been recognized for decades as a low risk way to help people rehearse interpersonal interactions and coping strategies. Dungeons and Dragons, and other roleplaying games, can serve a similar same function for students. In fact, they have an advantage over free-form role play due the carefully constructed worlds and rules integral to play. The codified structures help students by providing clearly defined and understandable frameworks in which to act. In this session we will look at what roleplaying games are and how they can be used as a way to improve social skills, resiliency, and self-confidence.

A Sneak Peak Into My Counselling Toolbox-Shhh It's Confidential
In this session I will share some of the different strategies I used as a school counsellor in individual, small group and large group settings with a focus on grades 1-6. You will have a chance to experience some of the activities first hand and hopefully leave with an idea to try for your next counselling session. Some of the topics covered will address how our actions make others feel, the importance of having a network of support, and other common counselling topics. I will also share with you my tracking and documentation practices and how to build small group support groups.
