Understanding by Design (UbD)™ is a framework used by educators to improve student achievement. Designed by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe, the emphasis of UbD is in backward design – the practice of looking at outcomes first in order to design curriculum units, performance assessments, and classroom instruction. Research on learning has conclusively shown that students need to see the BIG PICTURE to make sense of their lessons, and, especially, to transfer their learning to new lessons, new issues, and real-world situations. In this session, participants will learn how to prioritize curriculum and use this framework to refine their educational planning.
