Enhance Your Math Assessment: Using Geometry Games as a Performance Task

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Feedback form is now closed.
At the end of a geometry unit, it’s easy to make a test where kids state all the names and attributes of shapes. But, how can we match our assessment practice to the hands-on approach to learning about shapes during a unit? We wrestled with this question and our grade 4 & 5 students helped us answer it! In this session, we’ll share how we used games to meet all the curriculum outcomes and how we designed a performance task as a summative assessment. While trying out the performance task, teachers will learn how to design their own task and a matching rubric. Teachers will leave with specific games and performance task ideas that they can adapt to their classroom. Get ready to go back to your classrooms and hear your students tell you, like ours, that they were confident working with geometric objects and were proud of their mathematical thinking!
