“Our kids have never struggled this much”. I hear this in many Divisions. Our province is facing a number of stressors that have resulted in many of our babes experiencing some form of “trauma”; significant economical stressors, forest fires, children who enter our classrooms as refugees, and a mental health crisis as a result. We will spend some time talking about what trauma is exactly and the effects of trauma on emotional development. We will explore how keeping their “lid flipped on” can sometimes take more time and how this can become the most important lesson a child will ever learn in a classroom. We will also spend some time talking about compassion fatigue, as those babes who need the most from us also take the most from us.
