Fake news stories, such as a Florida man dying after lighting his flatulence on fire in a meth lab, are rampant on social media today; yet, students are not necessarily prepared to deal with these. In this workshop, we will discuss the idea of "epistemic cognition" and how we might teach our students to apply their epistemic cognition in making sound, effective, and critical judgements about the "scientific" and scientific information they encounter.
