For a long time, we've been taught that this European discovered that and this European did that and the people who had been living here in the Americas for thousands of years were just background characters, like extras in a Hollywood western. The hunter and collector model of the indigenous people. And this view was and still is constantly backed up in books, in pop culture, and for many generations, in schools. The indigenous people of North America weren’t all hunters and collectors; they were and are as diverse, as advanced, as cultured and as plentiful as any other group living in other parts of the world. In this session, Wayne Arthurson, indigenous writer and author of the book; In the Shadows of Our Ancestors, will explore the diverse and astounding contributions the indigenous people of the Americas that have formed today’s world.
